Code of Conduct

1. Duties of Editors, Scientific Committee, and Editorial Committee.

- The Editors  – Alessandra Di Meglio, Ph.D, and Giovanna Battaglino,Ph.D. – are responsible for the final decision to publish or not publish contributions received by the Journal’s Editorial Committee, taking account of the outcome of double-blind peer Journal.

- In making their decisions, the Editors shall consult the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Committee, and also – in certain cases – anonymous referees, selected from among scholars and specialists not members of the Scientific Committee.

- The Editor in Chief, the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Committee shall judge contributions exclusively according to their scholarly value (i.e. content relevance, methodological correctness, style).

- The Editor in Chief, the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Committee shall not divulge to third parties (persons other than the authors and referees) any information whatever concerning contributions submitted to the Journal.

- Unpublished material received by the editors and submitted to the Journal cannot be used in any manner or form for other purposes, neither by the Editors, nor by members of the Scientific or Editorial Committees.

- The editors shall see to filing the referee reports on articles submitted – both accepted and rejected – in a restricted-access repository.

 

2. Duties of anonymous referees outside the Scientific Committee.

- The anonymous referees – named in special cases by the Managing Editors of the Journal  – shall assist the Editors, the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Committee in editorial decisions. They shall suggest corrections and modifications to improve the articles submitted.

- An anonymous referee who does not feel adequate to the task or who is unable to carry out the review within the time specified shall promptly notify the decision not to accept the assignment to the editors, who shall accordingly proceed to name another anonymous referee.

- The submissions received for anonymous review shall be treated as confidential documents and may not be used for any other purposes, as specified above (“Duties of Editors, Scientific Committee, and Editorial Committee”).

- Anonymous referees shall be objective. They are accordingly required to call the Managing Editors’ attention to any cases of similarity between the submission under review and any other published work of which the reviewer is aware.

- Anonymous referees cannot review material in whose regard they are in conflict of interest due to relations of competition, collaboration, or other relations with the authors.

 

3. Duties of authors.

- Authors must submit to the Journal only original material, not previously published – in part or in toto – in any other forum (monograph, hard-copy Journal, e-Journal). Further, authors are responsible for the data they report and bound by the laws on libel, copyright violation and plagiarism.

- Members of the Editorial Board ensure the monitoring and safeguarding of the publishing ethics. This comprises the strict policy on plagiarism and fraudulent data, the strong commitment to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed, and the strict preclusion of business needs from compromising intellectual and ethical standards.

- Whenever it is recognized that a published paper contains a significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distorted report, it will be corrected promptly. If, after an appropriate investigation, an item proves to be fraudulent, it will be retracted. The retraction will be clearly identifiable to readers and indexing systems.

- Authors’ submissions  must scrupulously observe the Editorial rules specified on the Journal’s official website.

- During the phase of double blind peer review, articles may not be submitted at the same time to other publications.

- Submissions must have a minimum length of 25,000 characters (including spaces) and a maximum of 50,000 (including spaces). The character count does not include bibliography.

- Authors shall ensure, for purposes of an article’s publication, that annexed images or other copyrighted material be accompanied by proper permission from the holders of the copyrights.

- Una / Κοινῇ encourages post-publication discussions in the form of letters to the editors to be sent to redazione@unakoine.it. Any request, question, opinion or criticism must be expressed in appropriate and respectful way.

- The Editorial Board will manage all the requests and will decide whether Authors need to be involved to collaborate to an academic enriching dialogue when discussion are generated by their work.
