Abstract

The article aims to delve into the themes of the unpublished lyrics included in the very recent Merinian collection Confusione di stelle (2019), highlighting in particular the classical cultural background—whether pagan or biblical, so long as archetypal and inclined to mythopoiesis—that Alda Merini possesses, thanks also to her intimate discipleship with S. Quasimodo (himself the translator of the Greek lyric poets in 1940). The line traced in these poems from the fertile 1980s will retrace the Orphic theme of Alda Merini’s love poetry, namely the erotic–metaphysical symbolism, albeit earthy, that is uniquely her own.
