Abstract
The present contribution aims at exploring the often neglected Latin poetry of Lorenzo Rocci. The focus is on the poem Mare Nostrum, which might be considered an effective synthesis of his poetics. Drawing on accurate textual comparisons, the paper will show how Rocci’s poetic interest shifts from the heroism of Luigi Rizzo to the praises of Venice which in the guise of a new Rome, conquers unredeemed territories, leading to a renewed splendor of the eternal values of Latinitas in the present time.
