Abstract
This work aims to analyse the connection between Giovan Francesco Busenello’s libretto, Il Viaggio d’Enea all’Inferno (1658), and its source, Virgil’s Aeneid VI; mostly, the meeting of Dido and Aenes in the Ades will be investigated. He realizes a rewriting that recovers the Virgilian matter according to the needs of the plot itself, inventing new scenarios, such as those determined by the combination between the situation of the VI book and the discussion between the two lovers of the IV.
